Is Taiwan an integral part of China or an independent state?
Posted by echan76 under Taiwan
Just want to know where you guys stand on the issue.
Also note these facts down before you answer.
Taiwan has democracy. You can vote.
Taiwan has its own currency. New Taiwan Dollar “NT”
Taiwan has economic activity and an organized economy. A country regulates foreign and domestic trade and issues money.
Taiwan has sovereignty. No other State should have power over the country’s territory.
Taiwan has external recognition. A country has been “voted into the club” by other countries.
25 countries (as of early 2007) recognize Taiwan as an independent country.
Oh and last but not least the people of Taiwan want no part of China.
*China has increased the number of short-range missiles aimed at Taiwan to about 1,500, officials and experts said yesterday, a sign of continued distrust between the two sides despite a recent warming of ties. 15 Feb 2009

Now why oh why would you point so many of those missiles at your own country?
???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Independent state. Yes the Taiwanese choose to be free from the communist monsters who have no respect for other peoples’ sovereignty. Ask any Tibetan what that means.
Taiwan is a province of the Republic of China (ROC). That’s it.

The name of the nation is also printed on the passport. Nothing can be argued.

It depends really on who you ask.
“Taiwan an integral part of China.” A Mainland guy would say (and UN and the U.S. also say so)
“Taiwan is an independent state.” A Taiwanese guy would tell you (and Olympics committee think so, too)
But it seems to me, there is still no answer to this. There is an ongoing unsettled political status issue whether to eventually reunify Taiwan with China or proclaim it an independent state.
In the meantime, both parties are happy with maintenance of the status quo.
Taiwan did not have “democracy” - vote until 1996. That does not change the fact it was a part of China throughout the history. Taiwan was a part Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty since 1300s. At the end of Qing Dynasty, Japan won a war against Qing, and Taiwan was forced to be given to Japan. 50 years later when Japan lost WWII, ROC (Republic of China) regained control of Taiwan in 1945. ROC government was made of two major political parties, KMT and CCP. KMT started the civil war even before Japanese invasion by massacring communists on sight. However in 1949, CCP won the war on mainland. Taiwan was the last stronghold of KMT. The United States, a country run by big businesses, naturally support KMT with both aid military/economy, and also propaganda support.
Jiang Kai Shek, continued to rule ROC on Taiwan until he died. Then his son took over and ruled until he died as well.
It was not until 1996, there was a voting system in Taiwan.
It did not change anything.
25 countries support Taiwan? 25 really small countries that just $1 million U.S. dollars can bribe them. What about the other 150+ countries that doesn’t support it?
How about if your son refuse to reorganize you as his dad, and 25 of his gang buddies support him, does it make it a fact that you are not his dad?
Current Taiwan situation was entirely created by the U.S. intervene in someone’s civil war in the first place.
“People of Taiwan want no part of China”, is that right? You speak for every one of them? Who are you?
I have met quite a few “people of Taiwan”. Five of them had discussed such issue with me, four of them (adults) clearly said they are Chinese. Three of those four have Ph.D. One of them said she wanted KMT to rule all of the China again. Only 1 high school kid who refer “one country” as “it was a long time ago” who was clearly brainwashed by DDP separatist propaganda, however he too admit his root was from mainland.

As for your Tibet’s talk, it is another CIA conspiracy against China. You can clearly find ROC map everywhere with Tibet on it. However, 10 years later after communists took over China and established PRC(People’s Republic of China), China invaded a part of ROC - Tibet. Right?
Even a U.S. WWII propaganda movie released in 1944 also had map of ROC with Tibet on it.
However, “China invaded Tibet in 1959″ became the “truth” through anti-communist propaganda 10 years later.
P.S. Dalai Lama is on CIA payroll.
Oh, since you are in Taiwan as you claim, why don’t you go dig a little deeper to look for ROC old maps??? See if Tibet was on it or not?
The truth is …. Republic Of China is a recognized government-in-exile.Everyone know that the China is mean People’s Republic Of China.NOT R.O.C .
Now the government in Taiwan is a “recognized government-in-exile”
Your question is “Is Taiwan an integral part of China”.
The official name of Taiwan (according to Taiwanese and its allies) is “Republic of China”. So BY DEFINITION, it is of course part of China.
Also, the official capital of the “Republic of China” is, believe it or not, still Nanking (ie Nanjing) in China, not Taipei. If Taiwan is not part of China, why is its official capital in China?
You said there are 25 countries, I only counted 23. And all of them very tiny countries. Many I have never heard of (eg, Saint Kitts and Nevis).
You said Taiwanese don’t want reunification, but most of the older generation DO. But they want it under their terms.
What’s here to discuss? It is governed independently, it has it’s own currency, it’s own president, passports, it’s own everything. Th fact it is not recognized by PRC and most of the government in the world due the political pressure from PRC doesn’t mean it is not independent. It’s just a word play.
It is truly independent and those who say otherwise are simply expressing their wish which doesn’t reflect reality.
It is INDEPENDENT!
